Most miso soups are made with the usual 4 ingredients which are water, miso, tofu and sea weed of any form. Some vegetables are also added in miso soups the most common ones being potatoes, mushrooms, radishes, dill weed and various types of sea weeds.

Miso soups are also a main item for breakfast in Japanese cuisines. It is usually served with rice, eggs, fish and pickles and also be at the table for lunch and dinner along with any side dish or followed by a much fuller main course which will satisfy the hunger pangs completely.

  • Dashi- 2 quarts
  • Dark red miso- 6 tablespoons
  • White miso- 2 tablespoons
  • Sliced scallions- 4

Directions:

  • Dry the tofu using paper towels and then cut it in to cubes.
  • In a sauce pan, heat the dashi until it reaches a 100 degrees Fahrenheit on the thermometer before adding in the red and white miso.
  • Simmer the sauce pan to low heat for a while.
  • Now add in the tofu cubes and the scallions and cook for 2 more minutes.
  • With the help of a ladle, pour the mixture into soup bowls and serve immediately!

  • Dashi stock- 3 cups
  • Sliced mushrooms- cup
  • Miso paste- 1 tablespoon
  • Soya sauce- 1 tablespoon
  • Cubed tofu- 1/8 cup
  • Chopped green onion- 1

Directions:

  • In a sauce pan, add in the dashi stock and bring it to a boil.
  • Now add in the mushrooms and let it simmer for a while.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the miso paste and the soya sauce.
  • Add it into the sauce pan and then add in the cubed tofu pieces.
  • Let simmer for 3 minutes or so.
  • Finally add in the chopped green onion and turn off the heat.
  • Serve immediately and hot!

  • Soya sauce- 1 tablespoon
  • Sherry- 1 tablespoon
  • Water- 4 cups
  • Grated carrots- 2 cups
  • Chopped spinach- 10 ounces
  • Miso paste- cup
  • Black pepper- a pinch

Directions:

  • In a sauce pan, add in the olive oil and saut the onions.
  • Now add in the garlic and the ginger and fry.
  • Now add in the cubed tofu and fry.
  • Next add in the soya sauce and the sherry.
  • Add in the water and simmer for a while.
  • Add in the chopped spinach, grated carrots and the miso paste.
  • Season with black pepper and stir it to mix.
  • Cook for 2 minutes and then serve hot!

  • Chopped green onions- 2
  • Red chile pepper- 2
  • Toasted sesame seeds- 2 tablespoons
  • Chopped cilantro- 2 tablespoons
  • Pickled ginger- 2 tablespoons

Directions:

  • In a large sauce pan, add in water and then put in the pumpkin to boil.
  • Now, add in the ginger and the soya sauce and let it cook for 3 minutes.
  • Next, add in the buckwheat noodles and let them cook.
