The Top 10 Ways to Be a Better Bridesmaid

Listen really listen. Some days the bride may just need to talk things out. An open ear and a good friend are priceless.

Calm is contagious. Even in the most stressful moments, keep your head about you.

Take a break. Steal away with your friend for a simple cup of coffeeno wedding talk allowed.

Give your approval. This is not your wedding. Let the bride have her way on her day.

Speak second. Nothing is worse than listening to a bridesmaid go off on a tangent about the ugly flowers when the bride thinks they are fabulous.

Keep her style in mind. Plan a bridal shower and bachelorette party that pay homage to the brides style, taste, and personality.

Dont compare. A laundry list of what you did better or how your friend did this or that will not make for pleasant wedding chit-chat.

Be agreeable. Nothing good has come from a disagreeable bridesmaid, ever.

Participate. You may despise the bouquet toss or wouldnt want to be caught dead line dancing, but if they are part of the festivities, get out there!

Behave. Dirty dancing with the grooms brother, passing out in the hall, telling off the slacker bridesmaidnot a good idea for obvious reasons.

    Introduction

There is no arguing: This is the brides big day! Yes, she has asked you to be an integral part of it, but when all is said and done, your role is to assist your friend in this most special and unique time of her life and hopefully have the time of your life while doing it!

What comes to mind when you think of being a bridesmaid? Is it an image of fun and frolic with your best girlfriends, of planning showers and bachelorette parties, and walking the aisle with the cute groomsmen? Or is your vision one of tacky dresses, crazed brides, and a continuous outlay of cash? Somewhere along this journey you need to ask yourself, What does being a bridesmaid mean to me? If you have already said yes to the bride, then being a bridesmaid should mean that you are thrilled for your friend and ready and willing to help her plan and prepare for one of the biggest days of her life.
