Finally, a sane book on how to develop healthy self-esteem! Rather than promoting feeling better than others, this book helps readers to have kindness and compassion for themselves because they are simply human. The sense of unconditional self-worth developed through the exercises in this book will help transform many lives for the better.
KristinNeff, PhD, associate professor of human development and culture at the University of Texas at Austin, and author of Self-Compassion
TheSelf-Esteem Workbook is both excellent and practical because it is built on a sound scientific base, offers clear recommendations, and comes from and speaks to the heart.
StevenE. Hobfoll, PhD, professor and director of the Applied Psychology Center at Kent State University
Chock-full of effective and practical strategies for raising self-esteemhelpful for anyone who wishes to end negative thinking and learn to see their true value.
MatthewMcKay, PhD, coauthor of Self-Esteem
It is impossible to read this book without feeling better about oneself and others. It should be required reading for every living soul.
RobertL. Bunnell, MS, PA-C, marketing coordinator at the University of Utah Physician Assistant Program, and executive director of the Utah Academy of Physician Assistants
What a wonderful workbook! Even for those of us who feel we have a high level of self-esteem, this book provides insight and techniques for improving those areas that sometimes make us question ourselves and our self worth. With some of my more difficult physical therapy patients, I often employ the cognitive rehearsal technique of acknowledging what is right about themselves to break their negative views of themselves or their situation. This in itself often leads to acceleration in the healing process.
LindaC. Harvey, MA, PT, physical therapy role extender for rehabilitation coordinator for the Visiting Nurses Association of Maryland
This book is excellent. We are already using it in our self-esteem presentations. Its one of the first and finest self-esteem resource guidebooks that offer in-depth information in a grounded, useful way.
JaquelineMiller, Maryland Governors Task Force on Self-Esteem
Self-esteemits importance and how to develop and protect itis a poorly understood concept in todays world of the quick fix. Glenn Schiraldi has done a great service in assembling all of the material on this important topic. His practical, step-by-step format and powerful skill-building exercises lead the participant on a purposeful journey that can result in a future of better mental health and well-being.
SharleneM. Weiss, PhD, founder and former director of psychosocial oncology at the University of Miamis Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and associate professor of medicine, psychiatry, and psychology at the University of Miami School of Medicine
I have been teaching courses in human development for nearly forty years. I am impressed by the wealth of materialactivities, exercises, and accompanying narrativesfound in Glenn Schiraldis TheSelf-Esteem Workbook. An excellent resource!
AlbertH. Gardner, PhD, associate professor of human development, and director of Advocates for Children at the University of Maryland
Dr. Schiraldi has created a hands-on program that can be used as a complete program or for counselors wishing to add specific exercises to treatment. This book is certainly appropriate for continuing education of counselors as well as an office manual. The material is current and well organized.
ThomasW. Clawson, executive director at the National Board for Certified Counselors
Glenn Schiraldi has skillfully and thoughtfully brought together three essential elements for lasting change: sound principles, practical applications, and a reasonable time frame for real change to occur. Its all right here!
ClaudiaA. Howard, MEd, president of Individual Potential Seminars
Its obvious that this book is a labor of love that was many years in the making. Ive gained much by rereading it. It shows that self-esteem can be increased, regardless of ones upbringing, past environment, and experiences. The readings and exercises provide concrete steps to establish the unconditional worth of each human being, cultivate the skill of love, and then help a person to grow and reach out. I particularly enjoyed the inspirational quotes from men and women who have realized their self-worth and thus been able to reach out beyond themselves. This book is a great personal investment!
PamelaG. Barainca, RD, LD, clinical dietitian
Even educated people have self-defeating ideas that impair self-esteem. At least one idea from every page has affected myself, my life, and every single person that I have spoken to in my professional life.

I found TheSelf-Esteem Workbook to be an infinitely deep wellspring in my work as a volunteer facilitator for groups of victims of abuse. It is clear and easy to understand, and its step-by-step program is perfect for those struggling with self-worth issues. Its timeless content applies to anyone suffering with low self-esteem. I have used it over and over, and will continue to do so. Thank you Glenn Schiraldi!
JanetHarkness, homemaker and mother
Brilliant in its simplicity. I have used it extensively as a mental health resource, an invaluable teaching tool, and a gift to close friends.
MelissaHallmarkKerr, PhD, cofounder of Brain Savvy Leadership
TheSelf-Esteem Workbook is clearly one of the best written for understanding and exploring the true meaning, importance, and value of building self-esteem. It is a guidebook for healing and loving our inner essential selves. This book encourages us to explore and learn to cherish with awe, the magic that lies within us. A must for teacher training, working with battered and abused populations, and people who are in recovery processes. A terrific workbook. I think every school in America should be working with this information.
SandiRedenbach, MEd, former chairperson of the California Council to Promote Self-Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility
