About The Author
Derek Borthwick, BSc. (Hons), Dip.C. Hyp/NLP , is a multiple best selling author and leading mind expert. He has over thirty years of experience. Derek has worked with some of the worlds largest companies and has lectured at top Scottish Universities. He specialises in advanced communication, persuasion and influence methods. Derek gained a diploma in clinical hypnotherapy and is a certified master practitioner of neuro linguistic programming (NLP). He also has a diploma in organisational and transformational coaching from the Henka Institute.

PREFACE
To think is to be and to be is to think.
I've always been fascinated by human communication and interaction. Why do some people have such a positive outlook on life and others have a negative outlook? Are some people just born with a positive outlook while others are born with a negative outlook? This fascination led me deep into how the mind and brain work and what causes these different mental states. This has led to a lifetime of study and discovery. We all have negative thoughts from time to time together with self-doubts and we wouldn't be human if we didn't. However, it is the degree to which this affects our lives that can have a debilitating effect.
There are other books on eliminating negative thinking, but for me, there was always something missing. The missing parts to making the change complete. As a mind expert, this has led me to conclude that while tips are well intentioned, rarely do they work in isolation and that the real secret to any form of change lies deep within our minds. The very fact that you are reading this book would suggest that you have tried to solve this problem consciously. While a tip, such as going for a walk or meeting with a friend, can be a temporary solution, it doesn't address the underlying issue. Try giving a tip to someone who struggles with their weight and say: Eat less and move more and notice the reaction that you receive. We need simple methods and techniques to identify negative patterns of behaviour and to reduce, change and eliminate them.
I have never met anyone who is positive all the time. There have been difficult periods in my life that I had to overcome. I haven't always had a positive mental outlook. The difference now is that I have learned to control my thinking.
The encouraging news is that people who are negative thinkers actually have a talent and have hacked into their brains and their mind. They just have hacked into it in the wrong way! It is simply a matter of changing this to generate different results. This will become more apparent as we explore this further as we go through the book.
In this book, we are going to be exploring how our brains and minds work. We will draw on the scientific evidence and use some powerful technology to get you the results that you want. Simply working your way through this book and using it as a reference from now on will help to break down any previous negative patterns of thinking and ensure your success in the future. Part Two
Part two builds on our new understandings and leverages the latest and most powerful methods to help eliminate negative thinking.
