This book contains valuable information about Minecraft seeds. Gathering the seeds discussed in this book is no easy task. Take note: Minecraft can create an endless variety of different worlds.

Because Minecraft is able to generate a plethora of worlds, it is impossible for a player, or an army, of gamers to enter every world that is created. In fact, not all the maps are worth recreating. Appraising a maps value is a difficult task because the worth of a world is a subjective matter.

Despite this, gamers were able to compile a select few maps that are considered valuable. Although most maps were randomly generated, those who tried their luck by inputting seeds that were considered promising were able to create a few.

Every seed contains a brief description of the world that will be generated by it. The description provides information regarding the location of villages, resources, and biomes near the players probably spawn point. Occasionally mini challenges will be provided within the worlds created by the seed.

Before reviewing the list, be sure to read the following section, which contains important information regarding Minecraft seeds and world generation.

World materialization in Minecraft is dependent upon the hard coded algorithm. The algorithm needs a seed that is a combination of alphanumeric characters in order to create a world. A seed can contain 1 to 32 characters allowing for numerous unique worlds. Do not confuse Minecraft seeds with plant seeds, which are planted by players within Minecraft worlds.

Minecrafts world generating algorithm and seed values allow players to recreate the same world using said worlds seed value. Simply put, when a seed value from a present world is inputted in the algorithm, that same world will be replicated. This rule remains the same no matter which game console or computer is used.

Automatic Input of Minecraft Seed Values

There are two ways to acquire seeds that assist in the materialization of worlds. The first method is for the program to create a pseudo-random seed value. This is based on the system time of the players gaming device (e.g. personal computer, Macintosh, XBOX, devices with Android OS, etc.). This automatic function prevents users from being placed in a world in which they may have previously played. This allows for variation in the players gaming experience.

Manual Input of Minecraft Seed Values

The second method through which seeds can be acquired is if the user manually inputs a seed. Altering the seed value found in More World Options, which is under the Create New World menu, can do this. This allows a player, his/her co-players, and friends to re-experience a world from scratch.

How to Check a Worlds Seed Value

In case a player prefers the setup of a specific world, the seed the algorithm used to create the world can be checked and reused to recreate that world. The player must input the following command in the games chat window while playing in the world he/she wishes to recreate: /seed (no quotations). If the algorithm used a pseudo-random value, the seed value will contain at least 15 characters or more. In addition, the seed value may be positive or negative.

Additional Notes

The /seed command is only available in Minecraft version 12w21a and above. The function used to input a seed manually while creating a new world is available in Minecraft version 1.30 and above. If a player wishes to obtain a worlds seed without using the command, the Minecraft Save Seed Reader program can be used to extract it. This program can be acquired through Minecraft Wikis Seed Level Generation page.

It is possible to recreate a world without using a seed. Version 1.4.2 allows gamers to use the Re-Create function found under the Select World menu. Players can select or highlight an old world, hit the Re-Create option, input additional desired settings, and regenerate untouched versions of old worlds.

It is important to note that whenever the games algorithm is updated or changed, the world that is to be generated from a seed value will change. For Example: If a seed A generates a world that is full of water using an outdated Minecraft algorithm, seed A may not generate the same world using an updated Minecraft algorithm. This makes gathering desired seed values difficult.

Due to the algorithm changes in different versions of Minecraft, the seeds will be categorized by versions in which they will function or create similar worlds. The list will contain three categories or sections. The first will contain seeds that will function with the latest beta version 1.8.1 of Minecraft. The second will contain seeds that will function with the seed input enabled beta version 1.3 up to the widely used beta version 1.7. The third section will include a list of seeds that function in version 1.3 up to the latest official release 1.6.2.
