1 Walking Dead Cupcakes

These cupcakes offer a pale base with veins of red, buttercream and black sprinkles. You will also enjoy the decorated blood-looking gel and edible candy knives.

Makes 12 Servings

Total Cooking Time: 1 hours

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 sticks of softened butter, unsalted
  • 3 eggs, large
  • 2 1/2 cups of flour, all-purpose
  • 1/2 tsp. of salt, kosher
  • 1 3/4 cups of sugar, granulated
  • 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract, pure
  • 1 tbsp. of almond extract
  • 1 1/4 cups of milk, whole
  • 2 1/2 tsp. of baking powder
  • Food dye, red
  • 1 container of frosting
  • Red decorating gel
  • Sprinkles, black
  • Candy knives

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Add the liners to the cupcake tin.

2. Stir flour, baking powder and salt together in large bowl.

3. Blend sugar and butter in food processor till fluffy and light.

4. Add almond and vanilla extracts and eggs to food processor. Blend till combined well.

5. Add 1/2 of flour mixture. Mix on a low setting. Repeat with remaining flour.

6. Add milk. Combine well.

7. Fill cupcake liners 2/3 or so full.

8. Add 1 to 2 drops of red food coloring into each cup of the batter. Swirl it around.

9. Bake cupcakes for 13-15 minutes, till tops are lightly browned. Toothpick inserted should come back clean.

10. Allow cupcakes to completely cool. Frost. Top with sprinkles and candy knives. Add red gel if you like. Serve.

2 Game of Thrones Kidney Pie

You could fill a whole cookbook with Game of Thrones recipes, but not many are actually made in the series. One of these is kidney pie. You will enjoy trying this recipe and sharing the dish with your geeky friends.

Makes 4-6 Servings

Total Cooking Time: 4+ hours

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. of oil, olive
  • 1 1/2 pounds of 1 to 2 diced beef chuck
  • 1/4 pound of small-chopped beef or pork kidney
  • 2 chopped onions, yellow
  • 2 peeled, chopped carrots
  • 1 cup of peas, sweet
  • 2 tbsp. of butter, unsalted
  • 6 sliced mushrooms, white
  • 2 tbsp. of flour, all-purpose
  • 1 tsp. of tomato paste
  • A bay leaf
  • 1 cup of stock, beef
  • 1 cup of beer or ale
  • 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, kosher
  • Pepper, black, ground
  • Pie crust sufficient for two nine-inch-sized pies
  • 1 beaten egg, large

Instructions:

1. Heat oil in large sized fry pan. Season beef using the salt ground pepper.

2. Brown beef in fry pan. Be sure all sides are brown. Transfer beef to large sized sauce pan.

3. Add a little more olive oil to fry pan. Season kidney and brown it quickly. Transfer to sauce pan with beef.

4. Melt 1 tbsp. of butter in pan. Cook carrots and onions for several minutes. Transfer onions to sauce pan with beef and kidney.

5. Fry sliced mushrooms in remainder of butter. Turn in pan for one or two minutes.

6. Turn sauce pan heat to medium. Add flour and stir. Cook for a few minutes. Add mushrooms, tomato paste and bay leaf.

7. Pour in beer and stock, barely covering veggies and meat. Reduce heat down to low. Cover and gently simmer for an hour and a half. Skim off fat if any floats up to top of mixture.

8. After an hour and a half, check to see if the meat is tender. If it is not as soft as you like it, cook for another half-hour. Youll notice that sauce has reduced. Dont let it evaporate completely. You can add additional stock if needed.

9. Taste and season as desired. Stir Worcestershire sauce into mix. Allow filling to cool.

10. Preheat oven to 425F.

11. Roll dough out to 1/4 thickness. Line ramekins with it. Set aside extra dough for topping your pies. Spoon meat mixture into ramekins on top of dough.

12. Once you have filled the ramekins, use extra dough to cover pies. Allow tops to hang over by 1/2 or so. Crimp dough over ramekin edges. Brush tops with beaten egg. Pierce tops to vent the pies.

13. Bake pies in 425F oven till theyre golden brown in color. This usually takes a little over 1/2 hour. Allow to cool a bit and serve.
