What kinds of lesser known ingredients will make your nacho dish a hit at any party? If you get tired of beans and beef, you can use other ingredients, too.
For protein, you may include brisket or shredded chicken on your nachos. In addition, some people like to make loaded nacho dishes with seasoned pork or sliced steak.
As far as cheeses go, there are SO many that go well with nachos. Although these two are not as easy to find, queso fresco and crumbly cotija are Mexican cheeses that are nacho-friendly and mild, so even the young ones will love them. Want some heat in your chips? Is there one type of chip that works better for nachos than the rest? Actually, home-made chips, made from corn tortillas cut in wedges, are sturdy and stay together best. But you probably dont have a lot of time for that.
Other top chips include those fried locally or in-house, at groceries. Look in the bakery section first. These chips are sturdier and thicker, which means theyre super for nachos.
If you cant find those chips, you can pick up a bag of ready-made corn tortilla chips. They work fine. Be sure to buy thick chips, not thin ones, because youll be loading them down with all kinds of tasty ingredients. Try making some homemade nachos soon.
Have you ever served nachos for breakfast? There arent many varieties of breakfast recipes with nachos, but they do taste great!
If you have stale tortilla chips in the kitchen, you can use them instead of tortillas, as this recipe does. They make the dish a lot easier than frying your own tortillas.
Makes 4-6 Servings
Cooking + Prep Time: 35 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 x 11-ounce jars of salsa Verde
- 2 cups of broth, chicken
- 1 bag of chips, tortilla
- 1 bag of Mexican cheese shreds
- 1 tbsp. of oil, light
- 4 eggs, large
- Cilantro, torn
- Sour cream, reduced fat
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325F.
2. Mix one jar of salsa plus broth in sauce pan. Bring to boil on med-high. Allow to cook for two to three minutes while continuously stirring. Remove sauce pan from the heat. Add cheese and stir till it melts. It doesnt need to be smooth.
3. Place tortilla chips in oven-safe dish. Pour sauce over them. Sprinkle on handful of the cheese. Place in oven for eight to 10 minutes.
4. After the mixture is half-cooked, heat oil in saut pan. Cook eggs till whites set but yolks are runny. Slide eggs onto cooked tortilla mixture. Open second jar of salsa. Spoon on a bit extra and the torn cilantro. Add sour cream, as desired. Serve.
This is a breakfast dish that everyone can enjoy. There are lighter ways to make it, too, like using turkey sausage instead of sausage and turkey bacon instead of bacon.
Makes 6 Servings
Cooking + Prep Time: 35 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1/2 bag of tortilla chips
- 2 eggs, large
- 3 tbsp. of milk, whole
- 1/2 tsp. of salt, kosher
- 1 cup of cheese shreds
- 2 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon
- 2 cooked, sliced links of breakfast sausage
- 1/2 finely diced bell pepper
- 1 sliced green onion
- To serve, as desired: jalapenos, sour cream &/or salsa
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 450F.
2. In sauce pan on med-high, scramble eggs with salt and milk and stir often till cooked fully through.
3. Lay 1/2 of chips on cookie sheet lined with baking paper. Sprinkle using 1/2 cheese. Top with 1/2 of bacon, eggs, peppers and sausages.
4. Repeat the layers to use up all ingredients. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, till it heats through fully. Sprinkle with the green onions. Add other toppings, if you like. Serve.
The slow cooker is your friend when youre making a breakfast nacho dish. It will help you create this delicious hash brown nacho recipe. Theyre super cheesy and soft.
Makes 8 Servings
Cooking + Prep Time: 20 minutes + 3 hours & 25 minutes slow cooker time
Ingredients:
- 32 oz. of frozen, thawed hash browns, cubed
- 1 x 10 & 3/4 oz. of undiluted condensed celery soup
- 1 x 10 & 3/4 oz. of undiluted nacho cheese soup, condensed
- 1 chopped onion, large
- 1/3 cup of melted butter, unsalted
- 1 cup of sour cream, reduced fat
Instructions:
1. In small, greased slow cooker, combine first five above ingredients. Cover. Cook on the low setting for three to four hours, till potatoes have become tender.
2. Add and stir sour cream. Cover. Cook for 15 to 30 minutes more, till fully heated through. Serve.
