About the Author

With over 20 years experience in the computer industry, Kevin Wilson has made a career out of technology and showing others how to use it. After earning a masters degree in computer science, software engineering, and multimedia systems, Kevin has held various positions in the IT industry including graphic & web design, programming, building & managing corporate networks, and IT support.

He serves as senior writer and director at Elluminet Press Ltd, he periodically teaches computer science at college, and works as an IT trainer in England while researching for his PhD. His books have become a valuable resource among the students in England, South Africa, Canada, and in the United States.

Kevins motto is clear: If you cant explain something simply, then you havent understood it well enough. To that end, he has created the Exploring Tech Computing series, in which he breaks down complex technological subjects into smaller, easy-to-follow steps that students and ordinary computer users can put into practice.

Windows 11

Windows 11 is the next major release of Microsoft Windows, and is the successor to Windows 10.

Windows 11 was released on the 5 th October 2021 as a free upgrade to compatible laptops, PCs, and larger tablets. However, Windows 11 is far more strict with hardware requirements than Windows 10, so some older machines wont be supported or be able to upgrade.

Windows 11 features a modern, simplified interface that is intended to inspire productivity and creativity with its more intuitive and visually pleasing design.

Lets take a look at some of the new features.

Whats New?

Windows 11 includes a major overhaul of the user interface with translucent windows, new icons, fonts, and rounded corners.

A more noticeable change is the start menu and taskbar, which are now centred. Although for die hard Windows fans, you can still align the taskbar to the left if you prefer. Its worth noting that the centred approach is easier to use, as the start button and apps are more easily accessible with a mouse.

Widgets make a comeback to Windows 11, allowing you to add widgets for weather, photos, news, stocks and so on.
