Preface

Thank you for purchasing The Art Of Effective Communication I am confident in saying that this book will forever change how you interact with people. I make the guarantee with every ounce of confidence that by using the 12 communication secrets in this book, you will take all your relationships to a new level you have yet to experience. Read on and I will show you how .

My Introduction to Communication

During my third year of university I had to enroll in a managerial skills and communications course as part of my business management degree. Little did I know that a university requirement would introduce me to the world of communication and change my life. I would have laughed at anyone who told me that a university subject would have an enormous influence on my life. I had a hard attitude upon enrolling in the communication skills course. Fortunately, things would change for the better.

I was a little bemused at how the lecture and other academics were studying communication. At the time, my little knowledge of communication was all about practice. I treated those who studied communication, especially the academics who theorized about it, as people who did not know how to interact with people. I thought to myself: Communication skills are for anti-socials who cannot interact with humans and for the ego-headed who feel above the rest of us by understanding the theory of what goes on during conversations. I am confident in saying that millions of people also think the same stubborn way I did towards communication.

The course started off with covering the basics of communication. Fortunately for me, the professor directly addressed my beliefs during her talk in the first lecture. She was aware of people's natural resistance in learning communication. The lecturer explained the many benefits of effective communication and how it was a skill, like any other, that can be learned and improved. Thanks to the lecturer I was receptive and willing to grasp this whole communication thing from the course's beginning. I became open to learning a skill that would change my life.

I do not recommend people to go to university for the purpose of studying communication. The environment of memorizing unnecessary theory and lack of practically makes it one of the lesser effective ways to learn communication. Many great, and not so great, books on communication have been written that can change your life if you practice what is taught.

Back to the course I was doing, I successfully completed the course with average-to-high marks. I had no calling to teach communication yet as I still knew very little about it. For a few years I explored various communication topics. I read books ranging from the psychology of conflict, aggression, body language, peak performance, and understanding, to listening, attraction, intimacy, inner peace, and personal change. It is not like the university course gave me an edge over other people, but what it did do was initiate the change from within me that lead to continual self-education in communication and personal development.

The communication skills course was a fork-road of decision-making in my life that could have taken me down the path I was living, as I ignored communication, or taken me down the path I am on now . Deciding to take that university course was a decision-point in my life that would shape who I would become as a person and the people I would influence for many years to come. It was a turning point for me: the communication secrets began to reveal themselves as I saw a world, previously hidden to me, that had existed in front of me my entire life.

In knowing the power of communication and how it changed my life, my knowledge was too powerful to keep within myself. Billions of people argue everyday, millions of people divorce each month, and few who know the 12 secrets of communication reap the rewards of wonderful relationships, success, and happiness. I wanted to go beyond helping myself to helping others and adding value to their lives. Communication became a skill that pushed me to entrepreneurship at the young age of 20 as a communication skills coach. I began helping thousands of people effectively communicate to help shatter their negative beliefs, self-limitations, heal relationships, increase success, and grow to develop a greater life.

At the completion of the first edition of this book, I am years old and still have a lot to learn. I will not make the mistake ever again of being shut off to learning and growing. Hopefully, you will also overcome any limiting beliefs to be open, learning, accepting of the valuable knowledge embedded within Communication Secrets of Powerful People . Whether you are or 81, there are many powerful life-changing principles in this book that you can begin implementing today to improve the quality of your life.

This book provides you with the knowledge and an action plan to reap the benefits of effectively communicating. All that is left for you to do is to be open, learn, and act full heartedly with decisiveness, energy , and a commitment. Inaction is the symbol of death while action is the symbol of life!

Getting the Most from this Book

Y ou will likely know a f ew , or perhaps many , good things about communication from your own experience and other author's readings; yet, the mindset of feeling you know nothing gives you a huge head-start to any kind of success. It works because:
