Introduction

No doubt there are occasions when you have felt and continue to feel like the narcissist that you have become entangled with holds all the cards. No matter what you seem to do, they always appear to come up trumps, smelling of roses or riding off into the sunset. If you shout and scream, he or she either laughs or shouts back and laps up the fuel that you are providing. You try and tell other people about how awful they are but their sheer force of charisma has many people brainwashed and that smear campaign has been highly effective in preserving their precious faade. You on the other hand are regarded as unhinged, dangerous and unpredictable. You have lost friends who have taken his or her side, family members seem wary of you and it has even caused you problems at work. You are exhausted, drained and dont know what is going to happen next. You struggle to look after yourself yet when you have seen your tormentor he or she looks rested, at ease and full of beans. How can someone so twisted and malevolent appear so relaxed and vivacious? Are they not exhausted too with all of the machinations they engage in and the pursuit of fuel? You turn to people for help but this is fruitless. Some people just do not want to know, others do not understand because it has never happened to them and your stories just sound, well, so ridiculous they just cannot be true can they?

He wouldnt do that surely; I have seen the way he looks at you.

I cant believe she would behave like that; she has only ever said good things about you.

What? Steve have an affair? He is a family man through and through. I think you are putting two and two together and making six.

You are left distraught and the more you protest the worse it becomes. You hear the whispers and see the sideways glances you get, but people just do not understand what he is like do they?

At times during your entanglement and even when you have tried to escape or you have been thrown to one side it seems that everywhere you turn he or she is there. You see this person is windows, places you have visited, a tune resurrects their presence, a scent brings a sudden reminder of them as the ever presence affects you. He or she is everywhere. In your bed still through the scent on your pillow, he appears without warning at events which he should not have known about but someone must be feeding him information. He is mentioned by people and his tactics and manipulations continue to be felt through all those you interact with despite your best endeavours to stay away from the narcissist.

You feel outnumbered. Everywhere you look he or she is there in one form or another. He or she appears undefeated, unaffected and about to win. Again. This situation makes you feel desperate but whilst you may feel outnumbered you are not outgunned. The Octuplet of Occupation

When we appear in your life, as we love bomb you into seductive submission, we are like an invading army. We advance into all aspects of our life with the intention of occupying your territory. Nowhere is sacred, nowhere will be left untouched as we crash through your boundaries, an unstoppable force which appears as a friendly force but is really invading your life with malign intentions further down the line. Here are the eight areas we wish to occupy, how we go about it and why we do it.

1. Home

We will spend as much time as we can at your house. We will visit repeatedly and arrive with gifts, fragrant words and showered kisses so that you will be delighted to see us and allow you into your inner sanctum. We will stay all day, then start spending the night and little by little leave some effects over at your house for the sake of convenience, a fresh shirt, some toiletries and so on until such time as we have you agree to move us in because to all intents and purposes we already have. Of course we are wonderful to have around so it is no imposition at all to let this happen. We do this to check out if there is any competition for your affection. We do this to learn more about you, checking your CD collection, your book library, the perfumes you use and the clothes that you wear so that we may mirror you and enable us to bind you closer to us. We want to ensure you are with us as much as possible to prevent those that raise dissenting voices about us are given next to no opportunity to continue to do so. We want to stake our claim at your operational headquarters so that we can in turn monitor everything you do to allow us to exert control over you at a later stage. The conquest of your home turf is a central aim when we first commence our seduction of you.

1. Friends

We are so charming and polite that your friends will soon become our friends and any that do not succumb to our charm offensive, well there must be something wrong with them mustnt there be? You will soon be dissuaded from maintaining a friendship with someone who will not join you in worship at the altar of me. Your friends will be recruited to maintain my faade of me being a wonderful, kind and decent person so that in time you will find that even your friends will consider your comments about my supposed abuse with considerable cynicism. Your friends will think I am wonderful and so good for you, thus providing me with additional fuel and if any should not read from my script then they shall be cast out and vilified on the basis of being jealous of what you and I have. Those that see the truth of what I am must be neutralised as quickly as possible so I can add to my coterie and also my Lieutenants from your friends. It is important for me to recruit from those ranks as you are far less likely to suspect them of furthering my malign agenda in the future and I can administer much of my manipulative behaviour by proxy whilst finding out necessary information about you.

1. Family

I am will be the dutiful son-in-law, the fragrant daughter-in-law and always welcome at the door of your family. Respectful and polite I will cultivate another persona of being a decent and reliable person who will soon acquire the approval of your family members. I will do my research about them so that I am able to charm them just as I have charmed you and your friends. There will be a gathering torrent of my magnificence which few will resist and even those with slight doubts will find themselves swayed by popular opinion. I will be seen as the good egg and the dependable type which allows me to court all of your family and have them provide me with fuel. When the time comes for me to turn against you I will have a supporting cast of people unwilling and unable to believe that I could ever be capable of the assertions that you make about my behaviour and thus you remain daubed with the taint of being the Crazy One and I am able to continue with my control of you out of sight of the gaze of your family.
