This book is not filled with fluff, it gets right to the point as we try to deliver the important information you seek without a bunch of side sales pitches or filler jargon.
If youre reading this eBook, you have recently built a facebook fan page or are interested in building one. You are someone who understands the importance of internet marketing and you know that by neglecting to market your business on the web, youre missing out on very powerful business results that an effective facebook fan page can have.
Whether your business is just getting started with a facebook fan page or you just want to get a basic page online, this eBook can serve as your 11 basic essentials guide to setting up and implementing a successful facebook fan page.
This eBook is intended to get you started in the right direction by pointing out the 11 most important things you should do when first creating a fan page on facebook. These 11 things are considered to be SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and they can make a huge impact on search results in Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. Performing these steps can be the difference between getting traffic and not getting traffic. It is in your best interest to complete every one of these steps to your best and fullest ability.
We will be focusing on keywords. Keywords are the words that are most relevant to your niche and what you want to be found for when someone is performing a search. If your business is about basket weaving then you want to have the words basket weaving throughout the fan page as much as possible but as natural as possible. If you stuff the words in too many times and it looks spammy, then it probably is spammy. Remember, keywords and seo can work against you if it is not done properly so do not over stuff the keywords, make it look natural.
This book was written pre Facebook Time Line. The contents of this book still work the same way and are still just as effective for rankings and getting more traffic to your fan page. Facebooks Time Line change only changed the way everything looks and some of the navigation however; everything in this book still applies.
When you first login to facebook, it will take you to your profile page not your fan page. You must realize that in order to have a fan page you MUST create a profile page first. Then you are allowed to create a fan page. So login to your profile first.
Now lets get you to your fan page. Click on the down arrow next to HOME and you will get this drop down menu. Now click Use Facebook as Page.
Here you will see your fan page listed, just click the SWITCH button on the right of it and it will now take you to your fan page.
Performing these steps can be the difference between getting traffic and not getting traffic. It is in your best interest to complete everyone of these steps to your best and fullest ability. Sorry for repeating myself but I cannot stress enough how important doing these steps are.
To edit the fan page, Click on the top right of the page under HOME.
The reason you want to do this is to keep a professional page and image. Remember, your company and name will most likely be on this so protect your image and brand. Take care of this now so you dont have to try and figure it out after its too late. In some cases it might not be possible to remove the damage once its done. Now click ( SAVE CHANGES ) at the bottom.
Pick a good name for your fan page if you havent already done so. This will eventually become your URL. Ex: www.facebook.com/??yournamehere
To do this, go to Basic Information on the top left of the page. You want to do this because it gives you a specific URL to your page which you can easily tell others to go to. This is a custom name that you get to set that coincides with your branding. Always take advantage of the ability to brand your web site when it is offered.
Now click on Create a user name for the page.
This name will be used as the URL or link to the fan page. You can ONLY set it once and cannot change it, so make sure you choose a fitting name that you can live with. Ex: facebook.com/yourcompanyname
Select an appropriate category and sub category.
By default facebook sets your sub category to the first one on the list.
Fill in your Address information so people know where to find you. I know this is kind of a no-brainer but you would be surprised as to how many people just dont do it.
Make sure you fill in your contact information at the bottom of the page. Include your email address and web site to help drive traffic back to your site every chance you get to add your web address you should take advantage of it.
Do not overlook the About Box . This is a very important tool that allows you to use keywords about your business and also put in a link back to your company web site ex: http:mywebsite.com . Space is limited so make good use. This information is immediately available to a new visitor so include content and keywords that tell them exactly what your page is about or at least the most important part of your message.
And finally on this page complete the description. I would put your web site address here and anything else about your business that is essential. Use keywords about your business when possible. Notice on mine I use the word SEO. This is a big one for a marketing web site like mine because it is the main service I provide. Make sure to use your main keyword however do not over stuff it so that it looks spammy. Looking spammy is a turn off and it can also raise red flags with certain search engines. Raising red flags could have the opposite effect of what you are trying to accomplish here. Dont let all of your hard work go to waste because you are trying to cut corners. Remember to always write for humans first and then replace a word where you can with a keyword as long as it looks natural.
Now click on SAVE CHANGES . You dont want to have to do all of this over again.
Lets go to the Profile picture section:
Having a really good profile picture is very important. Facebook gives you the ability to have a much bigger profile picture. I advise you to utilize this space and be creative. This picture should utilize the Max height and width allowed by facebook. At the very least have the default thumbnail picture that facebook allows you to have. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so take the time to be creative; it could help pay you big dividends.
