Introduction
Let's take a walk through history. When did we first start making sandwiches? Who had thiswonderful idea to fill two slices of bread with goodies?Mr. John Montagu can apparently claim this awesome invention. Thats right, this Britain genius designed what we now call asandwich.
But what can acceptably be called a sandwich? Should we call a taco a sandwich too? After all, it included food in a shell and we eat it with our fingers.
Firstly, to determine if a food item can be referred to as a sandwich, it must include bread. Itdoes not matter what kind of bread, but it has to include two slices or pieces of bread. Next, of course, there has to be some meat, vegetables, fruits, spreads, cheese, or whatever else you would include in the sandwich of your choice.
So, typically, the following items are not called sandwiches: tacos, burritos, fajitas, or quesadillas. Some sandwiches are internationally known, such as (note this is not an exclusive list):
BLTAs its name states, this sandwich includes bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes. There are many variations; some people like to add turkey (Turkey BLT) or they might include some Italian deli meats such as salami and pepperoni (Italian BLT). The type of bread used in this case isnot crucial; maybe a sub, hoagie, or regular Italian white bread are great choices.
Club SandwichThis well-stacked sandwich is usually made as follows: sliced bread (wheat or white, threeslices per sandwich), cooked bacon/ham/turkey meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and of course somemayonnaise.
Grilled cheese sandwichThis sandwich is typically made with cheese, bread, and butter and is grilled in a pan. But you can use any type of fat, such as olive oil or coconut oil, to fry the sandwich. As far as thecheese, use Cheddar, Mozzarella, Swiss, or whichever cheese you prefer. You can also selectthe bread of your choice.
Sub sandwichA sub sandwich can also be called a hoagie. These sandwiches are very popular in restaurantsand lend themselves to displaying fresh ingredients of your choice. They are usually made with Italian bread, similar to a baguette but much softer, and can come in two or three different sizesdepending on your appetite!
ReubenServed hot, this sandwich includes rye bread, corned beef, Swiss cheese, and a dressing similar to Thousand Island dressing.
Sloppy JoeThe sloppy joe is a sandwich filled with a mixture of cooked ground beef, chopped onions, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Sometimes, you can add hot sauce or chili powder to add a little kick.
P&J sandwichA peanut butter and jelly sandwich is probably one of the most popular sandwiches you can find; kids and adults love them. It includes a generous layer of smooth or crunchy peanut butter and a layer of jelly of your choice (strawberry, grape, raspberry, or other).
I dont know about you, but I am getting really hungry! I think its time we start fixing up somesandwiches.

3.PestoandSourdoughSandwich
Pesto sauce is not just for pasta, it is a great sandwich ingredient. I love to use it with left-over, shredded rotisserie chicken and freshly sliced tomatoes.
Ingredients:2 large, sliced tomatoes
1 medium-sized, finely sliced zucchini
8 sourdough bread slices
4 tbsp. pesto sauce (preferably homemade)
4 thick slices of Parmesan cheese
Salt and black pepper
1 tbsp. olive oil
Servings: 4Its best to cook the zucchini ahead of time for this sandwich unless you enjoy your zucchinicrunchy. In a medium skillet, over medium heat, add the olive oil and the sliced zucchini. Cook for fiveminute and season with salt and pepper.Set aside while you assemble the sandwiches.
Using two bread slices per sandwich, spread the pesto sauce evenly on both sides of thesandwich. Add a few slices of tomato, the cooked zucchini, and cheese to one slice beforetopping with the other bread slice.
Add the sandwich to the skillet, with additional olive oil if necessary, and cook for a fewminutes on either side or until the cheese has melted to your satisfaction.
4.YummySweetPotatoSandwich
Have you ever had a sweet potato sandwich? It is deliciously tasty. I highly recommend toasting the bread before assembling the sandwich as it holds the potatoes better and adds a great crunch.
Ingredients:4 thick slices of Italian bread
1 large peeled, sliced sweet potato
Pinch of cinnamon
A few slices of your favorite deli meat per sandwich (I especially like roast beef or turkey with this recipe)
