Introduction
As loving parents, the majority of us want our kids to eat healthily. We want them to be happy, active enough to have the best life chances and to help your kids to develop excellent eating habits is a gift that you can bless them with.
Growing kids, expend lots of energy as long as they are kept active healthy snacking is not a bad thing. The food that your kids eat every day, however does directly impact upon their mood, cognitive abilities, energy levels and their health.
If you encourage cooking with kids, the earlier they get into a good habit of eating well after a busy day, the better for them in the long term. Healthy snacking can be problematic for busy parents as it is dependent on excellent planning and the time to do necessary shopping. What you have in your kitchen cupboard is ultimately what your kids are going to have full access to at home.
With the help of this book and a little planning before visiting your local supermarket, your kids will be helping you make fun and healthy after-school treats.
Fresh fruit is a great place to start but we probably all have that one person who is a fussy eater. Some parents are also afraid of sugar content in fresh fruit but read on to discover recipes that are not only healthy, but they will make chocolate bars or that packet of crisps seem dull and boring.

Recipe 1: Pineapple Whip
Fresh, interesting and cool. If you want to start cooking with your kids, a fun and healthy after school treats do not come any better than this. Kids will look to check the freezer to see when their whip will be ready.
Cooking Time: 10 minutes + 3 hours freezing time
Equipment: Blender, freezer bags

Preparation:
Slice your pineapple into small chunks and place in freezer for 3 hours.
When ready, throw all the ingredients and blend together until smooth.
Scoop out the mixture, then place in freezer bags and freeze the mixture at least 20 minutes before serving.
This recipe can work well with any watery fruit such as melon.
Recipe 2: Muesli Triangles
These muesli triangles have few ingredients so they are really easy, so easy that even the kids can make them after they come home from school with little supervision. These triangles are much tastier than store bought snacks.
Cooking Time: 15 minutes + 30 minutes cooking time
Equipment: Baking tray

Preparation:
Line a baking tin with baking paper.
Mix together the muesli chips and condensed milk and stir well.
Preheat oven to 180C.
Press the mixture into the tin and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Take out of the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes. Cut into triangles and cool completely before putting them into an airtight container.
They last for up to one week.
Recipe 3: Banana Boats
Traditional treats are a great after school surprise. Before these go into the oven you can get the kids to help fill them with yummy flavours.
Cooking Time: 10 minutes + 10 minutes cooking time
Equipment: Cooking foil

Preparation:
Slit each large banana lengthwise leaving the peel on. Do not cut all the way through the banana to the other side.
Stuff bananas with your mini marshmallows nuts and all of the chocolate chips.
Wrap the bananas in cooking foil and place in a low heat oven for 10 minutes, or until the chocolate totally melted.
Enjoy!
Recipe 4: Watermelon Cereal Pops
These flashy snacks are great for an interesting after school treat. There is no need to use your oven, just melt in the microwave and set it before serving it to your kids to enjoy.
Cooking Time: 20 minutes + 3 hours setting time
Equipment: Popsicle sticks
