ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Like all pieces of writing, Communicating and Connecting With Social Media is the product of a thousand conversations and shared experiences. For Bill, those conversations have happened almost exclusively onlinein digital places like the comment sections of Scott McLeods and Dean Shareskis blogs and in the Twitter streams of folks like Russ Goerend, Steven Anderson, and Jon Becker. People hes never met like Chris Wejr, Lyn Hilt, and Eric Townsley have shaped his think-ingpushing, prodding, encouraging, and contradicting. Their contributionsand the contributions of hundreds of others who have embraced the notion that transparent sharing can make everyone betterare a constant source of ideas and inspiration for Bill.
For Jason, those conversations began in February 2008 with friend and likeminded soul Matt Scully during the National Association of Independent Schools annual conference where keynotes by Daniel Pink and Sir Ken Robinson helped to fundamentally shift his mindset about education. Since then, those conversations have continued, both on and offline, and have grown to include trusted friends and thinkers Sam Morris, Sarah Hanawald, and Meredith Stewartand countless others in his personal learning network, including Jonathan E. Martin and Jamie Field Baker each challenging Jason in ways he previously thought not possible. Lastly, Jason wishes to thank Doreen Kelly whose support and encouragement has been invaluable throughout this career.
For Eric, those conversations began in March 2009 when he joined Twitter and began to craft his personal learning network. There he came across a wide array of passionate educators like Thomas Whitby and Pam Moran. Principals like Patrick Larkin, George Couros, Chris Lehmann, and Deron Durflinger whose support, guidance, and unwavering commitment to share their knowledge have helped transform him into the leader that he is today. Eric would be remiss if he did not mention the New Milford High School communitystudents, staff, administrators, and parentswho collectively inspire him each day to continually grow and lead change in way that makes his school the best it can be.
Finally, Bill, Jason, and Eric would like to thank the staff of Solution Tree. Sarah Payne-Mills has helped to shepherd the book from a rough first draft to a much improved final copy, with insight and encouragement every step of the way. Gretchen Knapp has served as a constant sounding board, providing support even when we were overwhelmed, and Douglas Rife and Diana Brace sought out the feedback needed to ensure that the ideas shared within this text carried resonance with leaders in the integration of social media in schools.
