Introduction
Frosting plays a huge role in a lot of baking recipes, they can be used on top of cake or even doughnuts and theyre what make cupcakes, cupcakes! A good homemade frosting like the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting that Ive included in this book goes deliciously with moist homemade chocolate cupcakes.
If youre in the mood for a frosting covered dessert, you dont need much time or even ingredients to accomplish making tasty frosting at home. Once you try homemade frosting, you may never want to go back to store bought again.
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
This buttercream frosting is simple, easy to make and can be used with any dessert recipe that requires frosting. Theyre especially perfect for cupcakes!
Serving: frosts 12 cupcakes
Prep Time: 10 mins
Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- cup heavy cream
Instructions:
1. Use an electric mixer to cream butter. Once softened, turn mixer on medium speed and gradually add sugar.
2. Use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the mixer bowl. Beat until butter and sugar are well combined.
3. Beat in vanilla, once incorporated, beat in heavy cream gradually until desired texture is achieved.
Hot Chocolate Frosting
Hot chocolate is more than just a delicious drink during the winter. For this recipe you need dry hot chocolate mix and maybe a few marshmallows for topping.
Serving: frosts 12 cupcakes
Prep Time: 15 mins
Ingredients:
- cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- cup powdered chocolate mix (without marshmallows)
- - 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions:
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine chocolate mix and heavy cream. Stir constantly until steaming, not boiling. Set aside and allow to cool.
2. Use an electric mixer to cream butter. Once softened, turn mixer on medium speed and gradually add sugar.
3. Turn mixer to low once incorporated and slowly pour in the chocolate mixture, once its all added, return mixer to high speed and beat until fluffy, scraping down the sides of bowl when necessary.
Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting
This lemon cream cheese frosting is perfect on top of a moist lemon cake. Honestly, anything lemon flavored is delicious for me.
Serving: frosts a 2 layer cake
Prep Time: 25 mins
Ingredients:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- cup butter, softened
- cup lemonade concentrate, thawed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 6 cups powdered sugar
Instructions:
1. Use an electric mixer to cream butter and cream cheese together on medium speed.
2. Once creamy, turn mixer on low speed and add lemonade concentrate and vanilla.
3. While on low speed gradually add powdered sugar and beat for 1 - 2 minutes, use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the mixer bowl, beat until well combined.
Browned Butter Frosting
This frosting is perfect on top of an apple cake or even a dollop on the side of an apple pie. It tastes a bit like caramel and its simply delicious.
Serving: frosts a 2 layer cake
Prep Time: 25 mins
Ingredients:
- cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 - 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
1. In a small saucepan over medium heat melt butter and cook until golden brown, stirring constantly.
2. Remove from heat as soon as butter is golden. Using a mixer beat in sugar, vanilla and milk with butter.
3. Add more milk if the mixture isnt your desired consistency.
Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
This is one of those super easy frosting recipes, all you need is two ingredients and a few steps. Not to mention, its super delicious.
Serving: frosts a single layer cake
Prep Time: 25 mins
Ingredients:
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 2 cups butter
Instructions:
1. In a medium saucepan over the medium heat melt butter and chocolate, stirring constantly.
2. Remove from heat as soon as they have melted. Chill in the refrigerator until solid.
3. Once solid, remove and allow to go down to room temperature, use a mixture to beat until fluffy and lighter in color.
White Chocolate Pudding Frosting
Yes, you read it right, pudding frosting! In just a few minutes you can enjoy this light, fluffy frosting made with white chocolate pudding.
Serving: frosts 10 - 12 cupcakes
Prep Time: 10 mins
Ingredients:
- cup white chocolate instant pudding (one 3.5oz or 4oz box)
- cup cold milk
- cup powdered sugar
- 4 oz cream cheese
- 1 cup Cool Whip, thawed
