Make Your Move: The New Science of Dating and Why Women Are in Charge: summary, description and annotation

Modern romance is broken. Its time to flip the script.
Apps have transformed dating from a mysterious adventure into a daily chore. Young, single, college-educated women are sick and tired of competing for a shrinking supply of guys. And marriage-material men, long expected to take the lead when it comes to asking women out, are suddenly balking at making the first move, fearing theyll come across as creepy or inappropriate.
Society is changing, which means its time for dating to evolve. Millennial and Gen Z women are more than capable of seeking out whatand whothey want. Theyre standouts in the classroom and champions on the playing fields. Theyre leaders in the workplace and trailblazers in city halls, state houses, and Congress. So why would we tell a generation of badass women that theyre not allowed to be bold when it comes to finding love? Why should they have to sit back and wait (and wait and wait) for men to find them?
In Make Your Move: The New Science of Dating and Why Women Are in Charge, Jon Birger, author of Date-onomics, offers women bold new strategies for finding the one. Backed by research showing that women can win at romance by making the first move with the men of their choice, Birger explains why:
Its better to choose than to be chosen
The play hard to get method is not only outdated but grounded in bad science
The first move does not have to be a big move
Its time to log off of dating apps and date men you actually know
The workplace can be a terrific place to meet a long-term romantic partner
. . . and more!
Make Your Move is an honest, solution-based guide to finding love that lasts. If youre tired of playing by old rules, look no further: Make your move and win.

M y friend Samantha spotted me as I was leaving the gym.

Hey, big guy, wait up!

A fifty-four-year-old travel agent, Sam had just finished reading my first book, Date-onomics, and I could tell she was itching to give me her review.

Writers are an insecure lot. Personally, Id rather wait in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles for two hours than listen to Sam, or any other friend, critique one of my books. While I love Sam to deathshe and I have been workout buddies for yearsshe also happens to be one of those people who are never shy about giving uncensored, unfiltered opinions about anything. So this was not exactly a conversation I was looking forward to.

Date-onomics explored how todays increasingly lopsided sex ratios among college - photo 5

Date-onomics explored how todays increasingly lopsided sex ratios among college graduates have given rise to hookup culture and declining marriage rates. Since 2000, four women have graduated from college for every three men. As a result, there are now 10.3 million women versus 8.1 million men among US college graduates under age thirty-five. So, no, its not all in your head. There really arent enough marriageable men.
